Raptor gangbusters seize cocaine, gun in murder probe
Senior member of the Comancheros, Hayan Chandab, 35, received five bullet wounds when he was shot by masked men in front of the same house on Brisbane St, St Marys where, three years later, another man, Mehmet Yilmaz was murdered.
Yesterday, the Gang Squad’s Strikeforce Raptor, who were working with homicide detectives on Mr Yilmaz’s murder, arrested Chandab during a series of raids on six Western Sydney properties.
Whilst executing a warrant on industrial units at St Marys detectives spoke with Chandab and searched his car.
Inside they found a loaded .357 Smith & Wesson magnum revolver, more than 500g of cocaine, a ballistic vest, drug paraphernalia, steroids, and Alprazolam.
He was arrested and charged with numerous weapons and drugs offences including possess prohibited weapon and possess prohibited drug (steroids).
Chandab cheated death on July 21, 2013, when he was shot five times by masked men as he returned to his St Mary’s home.
He was hit by five bullets, which struck his lower back, shoulder and leg while another grazed his back and skull.
Mr Chandab’s nose was also broken when he was knocked to the ground and kicked in the head.
Despite suffering multiple bullet wounds, Mr Chandab managed to get up and call triple-0.
The next person to be gunned down outside the same house, Mr Yilmaz, was not so lucky.
He was shot a number of times outside the house on September 9. 2016.
This week homicide detectives had a breakthrough in that case arresting eight men over Mr Yilmaz’s death, including a suspected former Rebels leader Abuzar Sultani.
Chandab was refused bail and will appear at Penrith Local Court today. He has not been charged in relation to Yilmaz’s death.
Eight people were yesterday charged in relation to the murder of Yilmaz who was shot several times and once at point blank range in front of his fiancee.
Following extensive investigations, Strike Force Estop investigators and Strike Force Raptor, with the assistance of the Public Order and Riot Squad, North West Metropolitan Region, and the Dog Unit, executed six search warrants at Blackett, Meadowbank, Mt Druitt, Stanhope Gardens, St Marys, and The Ponds from 5am yesterday.
