La Familia outlaw motorcycle gang ‘shut down’ in Brisbane raid

QUEENSLAND police believes they have effectively shut down the La Familia outlaw motorcycle gang with the arrest of its alleged president yesterday.

The 34-year-old was charged this morning with 15 offences, including the theft of a Digger’s war medals.

His home in the inner Brisbane suburb of Kelvin Grove was raided yesterday, with the medals, along with a modified shotgun and “a significant quantity” of methamphetamines, allegedly found.

A 23-year-old woman was also arrested for failing to appear in court.

“We believe, at this stage, the group is no longer active,” Detective Inspector Bruno Asnicar of the State Crime Command Organised Crime Gangs Group said.

“We were in the process of disbanding them.”

Insp Asnicar said police were applying “a lot of pressure” to outlaw motorcycle gangs in Queensland.

The breakthrough came a day after police raided a home on the northern Gold Coast in connection with recent drive-by shootings believed to be bikie-related.

Diggers stolen war medalsdals were also recovered.
